We do NOT 'heart' the new Twitter heart
The Twitter "favorite" star is an icon. A beacon in the night. A way to say "thank you" with a single click. A "good night and goodbye" without characters. And above all, it was not a LIKE button; it was not a badge of LOVE, which is what a heart CLEARLY — universally — symbolizes, no matter what Twitter said*when it made our beloved favorite*star into a heart.*Make no mistake, Mister Tweeter: We don't LOVE your slightly amusing tweet in response to #NationalSandwichDay. No, we don't LOVE your mostly on-point response to #My3WordHappiness. We want to favorite that bad boy by clicking a single star*and move on with our lives! But oh no, Twitter had to go and complicate things, and now we and the Internet are*freaking out. If only there was*a way to change it*…
HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO POLITELY END CONVERSATIONS WITHOUT A FAVOURITE BUTTON?

Today's moment of zen: Imagining what Jon Stewart will come up with for HBO
Jon Stewart's hiatus, well-earned but short-lived, is over: He's signed an exclusive four-year contract with HBO, to produce "short-form digital content" (our fave!) for HBO Now. The deal also includes a first-look option for traditional TV series and films (please, oh, please?). He sounds ready to take a break from working on the animal sanctuary to tell a few jokes: "Appearing*on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I'm pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content now and again."

Jon Stewart's retirement as host of "The Daily Show" has allowed him to change channels — to HBO, that is. The comedian and premium-cable network announced a four-year deal Tuesday that will include Stewart creating exclusive digital content for HBO. USA TODAY
It's a really bad week for people who eat food*
There's another E. Coli warning. This time, a Nebraska meat supplier is recalling 167,427 pounds of beef that may be contaminated after a portion*tested positive on Oct. 30. The ground beef was produced on Oct. 16 and sold to retailers in 60- and 80-pound boxes with a Nov. 3 sell-by date —*which raises concerns that some consumers may have the products in their freezers. I have 60 pounds of meat in my freezer. What do I do? Look for the number EST 20420 inside the USDA mark of inspection. And don't eat it. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of people sickened by E. Coli in Oregon and Washington is up to more than three dozen. Is the recall related to the Chipotle diners? Hard to say just yet, but an Oregon health official said the investigation was pointing to contaminated produce.

An E. coli outbreak has led to the closure of 43 Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants in Oregon and Washington. Health officials have received hundreds of calls from people sho recently ate at the restaurant and became ill. VPC
Donald Trump isn't dominating, and that's news enough
Here's a shocking sentence: Donald Trump is no longer the center of every political conversation. Read that again if you need to, but*this week's USA TODAY GOP Power Rankings bear that out. The Donald is still in second place, but we have a new front-runner in Marco Rubio, and Chris Christie scooted up to the top tier, moves that followed strong debate performances from the pair.*Ted Cruz also did himself a favor in the debates and takes third place this week. Tuesday's Power Rankings also include a special treat: a snapshot of how the candidates have done over 10 weeks. Check out Christie's climb:
10 weeks into our @usatoday GOP Power Rankings, Marco Rubio is in first place for the first time. Check out onpolitics.usatoday.com for more.

If you're wearing your 'I Voted' sticker, we applaud you!
It's an off year, and we know how hard it is to get out and vote.*On this Election Day, San Franciscans were turning out Tuesday to vote on the "Airbnb initiative," which would sharply restrict short-term rentals in the city. Proponents say Airbnb rentals are driving up prices and taking rentals off the market in the middle of a severe housing shortage, but opponents say the measure is too restrictive. Elsewhere across the USA:*Colorado voters are deciding whether to give tax breaks to marijuana buyers, Ohioans are considering whether to legalize pot entirely, and Houstonians are voting on the so-called “bathroom bill” barring discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

On Nov. 3, 2015, San Francisco will vote on Proposition F, a measure that would restrict short-term rentals of rooms, apartments and houses. The law would strongly affect San Francisco-based Airbnb. Elizabeth Weise
If you only read one thing tonight: If you haven't voted today and the polls are still open, here's why you should cast your ballot in an "off-year" election. Your vote today matters more than it will in 2016.
