Donald Trump is leading polls in all five states holding Republican primaries Tuesday. And it’s by a lot.
A survey released Monday by Public Policy Polling shows him leading Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by yuuuge double-digit margins in three:
Connecticut
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
And recent polls in the other two states show similar victory margins for Trump.
The RealClearPolitics average in Maryland has him at 41%, compared to 27% for Kasich and 23% for Cruz.*In Delaware, a Gravis poll shows Trump trouncing with 55%, Kasich in second at 18% and Cruz at 15%.
With 172 delegates at stake (though 54 of those in Pennsylvania will be unbound), it will be the biggest single-day haul in the primary calendar in more than a month. And it could provide a critical boost for Trump after losses in Wyoming and Colorado had him and his team arguing that the whole process is rigged against him.
Whatever the case, if the polls are right, the victories*will help him close the gap between his current delegate count of 845 and the 1,237 he needs to win the nomination.
