It's something Ragdale has been doing for the last three years, and it's a hobby his 5-year-old son, Colton, has been watching. That was until Colton was old enough to read.(Photo: KUSA)

Five years old … it's an age of discovery, growth and extreme cuteness. While many kindergartners are mastering reading, writing and sharing skills, some are doing much more.
Meet Colton Ragdale and Maverick Steiner. At 5 years old, they're both exceptional in their own special ways.
Colton received a federal license to do what he loves, while Maverick found his niche excelling at a sport.
Maverick was in and out of a Florida hospital for the first few years of his life dealing with multiple surgeries and an autism diagnosis. His parents said he was a quiet boy until he decided he wanted to play golf. Since then, Maverick has swung to life.

Across the country in Colorado, 5-year-old Colton Ragdale was doing big things. As soon as he learned to read, his dad says he began training to be a ham radio operator. Colton's family believes he could be one of the youngest people to pass the Federal Communication Commission test to become a professional.

"My friends can't believe I do radio. It took a lot of hard work," Colton said. It's something he says he looks forward to doing every weekend. It's a hobby, but it's more than that for Colton. "I really like to help people. I like it a lot," he said.
