Joy quickly turned to pain for Sam and Nia Rader, two popular video bloggers, that posted a surprise announcement of Nia's pregnancy last week.*Nia suffered a miscarriage a few days later.
In last week's video, Sam obtained a sample of Nia's urine from an unflushed toilet and used it to take a pregnancy test. Sam then shocked Nia and their two children by announcing that their mother was going to have a baby.
The video has since racked up over 12 million views on YouTube.
Two days after the viral post, the couple, who live in Texas, announced that Nia suffered a miscarriage.
"We were so happy….we were just so overjoyed," Nia said in the Aug. 8 video post. "[The miscarriage] just hit us like a bomb. Those of you who have experienced miscarriage before…I can relate now."
The post, entitled "our baby had a heartbeat," has over three million views on YouTube.
Nia said she felt her "womb empty out," and said the hardest part was knowing "it's really gone."
The couple said they hoped that sharing Nia's miscarriage would allow others to feel comfortable speaking about their experiences.
"There is a stigma regarding miscarriage that says we need to be alone in it and keep it private, but what happened is nothing less than losing a baby," the couple wrote on YouTube. "The hurt and pain is real. It's something that needs to be talked about and something that requires support from friends and family."
Sam said the miscarriage won't stop the family from trying to have another baby.
"We're obviously going to continue and try to grow our family. It's not going to stop here," he said in the video.
