Two Virginia Tech students facing charges*in the death of a 13-year-old girl in the college town of Blacksburg appeared briefly in a Montgomery County courtroom Monday but did not enter pleas in the case.
David Eisenhauer, 18, is charged with abduction and murder in the death of Nicole Lovell. Natalie Keepers, 19, is charged with illegally disposing of a body and accessory after the fact in the commission of a felony. Both will return to court late next month.
Blacksburg Police Lt. Mike Albert has said freshman Eisenhauer, an engineering student and member of the school's cross-country team, "used his relationship to his advantage to abduct... and kill" Nicole. But Albert didn't discuss a motive or say how Nicole was killed. The investigation remains "very active," Albert said. Keepers, a sophomore engineering student, helped dispose of Nicole's body, Albert said.
Nicole disappeared early Wednesday. Her*body was found Saturday*in rural North Carolina,*almost 100 miles from her Blacksburg home.
Nicole's mother, Tammy Weeks, told The Washington Post*that her daughter apparently met Eisenhauer online a few weeks ago. "It was some off-the-wall site I never heard of," she told the paper.
Weeks said Nicole had survived lymphoma and a liver transplant when she was 5.

“God got her through all that, and she fought through all that, and he took her life,” she said. "That evil bastard*took her life."
Davy Draper, a family friend, told the Associated Press Nicole was an energetic and outspoken girl who got along with everyone.
“She was an awesome little girl. She was an angel here on Earth and she’s an angel now,” Draper told AP.
A year ago, Eisenhauer was an all-state*runner at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, Md.*Chris Heydrick, who competed against Eisenhauer in high school, told The Baltimore Sun*that Eisenhauer was "cocky," but "the dude was mentally tough. There was no doubt about that."
Joe Keating, co-captain with*Eisenhauer at*Wilde Lake, told the Post his teammate couldn't believe the news.
“We’re all just in utter shock,” Keating said. “We can’t get our heads around it.”
