[h=2]*[/h][h=2]We're so over #Snowzilla[/h]Our backs hurt from shoveling. Mountains of snow? They're everywhere. And now we learn*ANOTHER*storm could roll up the East Coast toward the end of the week. "We could see some snow, a wintry mix or rain in portions of the*Mid-Atlantic*and Northeast," says*Weather Channel meteorologist Quincy*Vagell. Oh, the humanity.*(If you're reading #TheShortList from somewhere sunny, pardon our kvetching.) Back to*the blizzard,*the snow on the ground is still bringing the hurt. In the eastern U.S.,*most schools and government offices were*closed Monday. Flooding is a big problem.*Travel is still a mess. And cabin fever is making us all a little stir-crazy. But the pandas? Loving it.

Tian Tian the panda captured our hearts when he was captured on video frolicking in the snow from Winter Storm Jonas. Not to be outdone, Jeffrey Perez put on a panda suit and showed off some moves of his own. USA TODAY
[h=2]If you were convicted of murder as a kid, you may have a chance to get your life back[/h]In a big Supreme Court ruling Monday, the justices granted hundreds of prisoners convicted of murder as juveniles the chance to have their mandatory sentences of life*without parole reconsidered. Why? In 2012, the high court banned mandatory life sentences for juveniles. In Monday's ruling, the justices*said the earlier ruling should apply retroactively. That*means about 1,500 prisoners have a chance at parole for crimes some of them committed decades ago, when they were teens.
[h=2]Peyton Manning vs. Cam Newton will*make a Super Bowl*for the ages[/h]Super Bowl 50 is the perfect intersection of the NFL’s past, present and future,*writes USA TODAY Sports columnist Nancy Armour. Denver Broncos'*quarterback Peyton Manning*and*Cam Newton, quarterback for the Carolina Panthers,*face off Feb. 7 at Levi's Stadium*in San Francisco.*(Sunday*wins by both teams*stitched up the Super Bowl berths.)*It'll be a game for the ages:*Manning trying to win one more title in what would be the storybook ending to*one of the finest careers in NFL history. Newton looking for the ring that would solidify his status as the new face of the league.*Manning on his way out, Newton on his way up.*And regardless of the final score, the torch will be passed.
[h=2]We're all still rooting for Lamar[/h]Lamar Odom is still working to recover from his*life-threatening overdose in October. His*estranged wife*Khloe Kardashian*shared an update*Monday on the former NBA player.*"His long-term memory is great.*His short-term memory isn't so good," she said during an interview on The*Ellen DeGeneres Show.*She went on to describe Odom's health as "great," saying he's been enjoying time with her famous family. "I think it makes him feel good to be around everyone, too, and to just be in a happy environment."
[h=2]Travel alert for pregnant women: Stay away from Zika[/h]The Zika virus, which has been linked to a birth defect*epidemic in Brazil, is spreading quickly throughout the Americas — and the U.S. is likely next. Several South and Central American governments, including Brazil, Colombia and El Salvador, asked*women to avoid pregnancy altogether. Babies affected by the virus*are born with small heads and incomplete brain development, and there are often no symptoms for a mother to know if she's been infected. So far, the Zika virus*has affected as many as 1.3 million*people in Brazil.*Olympics venues in Rio de Janeiro will undergo daily inspections to prevent the virus from spreading at this summer's games.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, that it has found the strongest evidence so far of a possible link between a mosquito-borne virus and a surge of birth defects in Brazil.*(Photo: AP)
