Six people were killed and two wounded, including a 14-year-old girl, in a gunman's random rampage in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Saturday.*Suspect Jason Dalton, 45, an Uber driver, was arrested Sunday. The dead are:
Mary Lou Nye
Nye, 62, of Baroda, Mich., was the driver of an Oldsmobile minivan targeted in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
A neighbor said Nye stayed positive even while*rebuilding a house heavily damaged by a tornado.
Nye lived with her husband, Chris, on property surrounded by farmland that had been in his family for many years, said Carol Dinges, who lives across the street in Baroda. After the tornado about five years ago, the couple had to live in their camper for a while the house was being fixed, but Dinges said her neighbor took it in stride.
“Every time I spoke with her, she was just pleasant,” she told the Associated Press.
Nye worked as a manager in a driver’s license office, but Dinges believes she had retired.
The couple had two sons, though one had died at a young age from a heart ailment, Dinges said.

Mary Jo Nye
Nye, 60, of Battle Creek, was the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze that was also targeted in the same parking lot.
Nye was a retired teacher who played a role in the founding of an*alternative high school in Battle Creek, and taught English there. She retired four years ago*but continued to attend graduation ceremonies. "She became like a mother to a lot of kids," said Tara Egnatuk, an assistant director at the school. She enjoyed quilting, playing Scrabble and volunteering at her church, according to AP. She was reported to be the sister-in-law of victim Mary Lou Nye.

Patrick Mallon Jr. told the AP Brown always*waved as she drove off to the mall, where she walked for exercise. Brown, who was known as Judy, watched Mallon's cat when his family went on vacation. They had been neighbors for a decade.
He said Brown had two grown sons, with one living in California and the other in Florida.
Brown was in a rear seat of the Chevy Cruz.
Barbara Hawthorne
Hawthorne, 68, of Battle Creek, was also in a*rear seat*of*the Chevy.
Police did not release the name of the 14-year-old girl who was a front-seat*passenger and was wounded. She was*in critical condition Sunday at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Rich Smith and his son*Tyler were identified by MLive Media Group in Michigan as the two people*shot and killed at a KIA car dealership in Kalamazoo. They were shopping for cars together when they were gunned down.

Tyler was a senior*at Mattawan High School in Mattawan, Mich. Students there were extremely upset and expressing their angst over social media, Robin Buchler, the Mattawan school district superintendent told MLive. "We have a lot of kids that are just really panicking a bit," she said. Tyler was described a "great kid" and well-liked. He had enrolled in a marketing entrepreneurship program at the school, Buchler told MLive.
Police have not released the name of a*woman who was shot multiple times and left wounded in the parking lot of a townhome complex.
