1. It's Oscar time!
It all comes down to this. The 87th Academy Awards crowns the next round of Hollywood royalty on Sunday. Who will win? Boyhood and Birdman are thought to be the top dogs for best picture, while Julianne Moore and J.K. Simmons are considered some of the locks in the acting categories. Non-nominated stars like Channing Tatum and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be presenting awards, while Anna Kendrick and Lady Gaga are taking the stage as musical guests.

2. All eight best picture nominees in 24 hours? Game on.
If you're behind on your movie watching — or in need of some last-minute preparation for an Oscars pool — AMC Theatres has your hook-up. The theater chain is offering a marathon showing of all eight best picture nominees in cities across the country beginning Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The marathon will cost you around $65 and probably a lot of sunlight. Don't forget the popcorn.
3. President Obama's immigration battle continues
While the Obama administration will seek to lift the injunction of a Texas judge who ruled against the president's plan to defer the deportation of millions of immigrants in the country illegally, Justice Department lawyers will file papers no later than Monday to seek a stay of the judicial order. The decision to seek a stay is in addition to a general appeal of the order that is the latest development in a legal battle that may go all the way to the Supreme Court. We'll see if officials file at some point this weekend.

4. Checkered flags get to waving at Daytona 500
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. After a week of qualifying races and nasty crashes, it all comes down to Sunday's Daytona 500. Big names like Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Danica Patrick will hit the speedway at 1 p.m. to face off in one of the sport's top races. Follow USA TODAY Sports for the latest race news.
5. Anniversary of Malcolm X's death
Saturday marks 50 years after the charismatic and controversial black leader's assassination. On Feb. 21, 1965, he was shot to death while giving a speech in New York City. His wife and four of his children were present, and only one person ever confessed to the shooting. Malcolm X's rhetoric is considered inspirational by some and infuriating by others, but either way, it's definitely memorable. Check out some of those moments.
