Islamic State releases video of apparent beheading of Japanese hostage
Outrage and grief gripped Japan after the Islamic State released a video online Saturday that purports to show the beheading of journalist Kenji Goto. The video shows a masked militant clad in black and brandishing a knife while Goto, wearing an orange jumpsuit, kneels in front of him. Speaking in British-accented English, the militant appears to be the same person seen in previous Islamic State, also known as ISIL, videos and dubbed by Western terror analysts as "Jihad John." On Sunday, Jordan renewed its offer to exchange an al-Qaeda prisoner for a fighter pilot held hostage by the militant group.

Bobbi Kristina Brown found unresponsive in the tub
Whitney Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was taken to the hospital Saturday after her husband, Nick Gordon, and a friend found her unresponsive in a bathtub. She remained in a medically-induced coma on Sunday at an Atlanta area hospital. Police told reporters that they had no reason to believe anything suspicious happened, and that there was nothing found in the house to make them suspect drugs. The incident, which remains under investigation, comes a week after a TV movie about her mother aired and two weeks before the three-year anniversary of her mother's death, which happened on the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards.
Massive storm puts a wrench in Super Bowl parties
It looks to be the biggest snowstorm of the season. A massive storm stretching from Nebraska to Maine is dumping snow, ice and freezing rain as it moves East. The good news? The brunt of the storm isn't expected to hit Boston, the heart of the New England Patriots nation, until well after midnight. Luckily, the forecast is also great in Glendale, Ariz., for the big game itself. The storm battered much of the Midwest on Sunday, with a mix of ice, snow and sleet blanketing several states. Heavy snowfall is expected to continue into Monday. Here is everything you need to know for the coverage of Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. First pro-democracy protests of the year in Hong Kong
Thousands of pro-democracy protesters returned to the streets of Hong Kong on Sunday, in the first major rally since mass protests last year. Holding yellow umbrellas, the symbol of last year's Occupy protests, the demonstrators chanted, "No fake universal suffrage. I want genuine universal suffrage." The protesters oppose the Chinese government's decision that candidates in the 2017 election for Hong Kong chief executive will be vetted by a largely Beijing-controlled nominating committee.
Balloonists who traveled a record 7,000 miles land safely in Mexico
Two balloonists crossing the Pacific landed safely off the coast of Mexico on Saturday, making history by traveling nearly 7,000 miles — farther and longer in a gas balloon than anyone else. The pilots of the helium-filled Two Eagles — Troy Bradley, 50, of Albuquerque and Russian Leonid Tiukhtyaev, 58 — landed off Baja Calif., about 300 miles north of Cabo San Lucas, and were greeted by a team of supporters. The two took off from Saga, Japan, on Jan. 25 and spent more than 160 hours in the air.
