If Ivanka Trump was being sexually harassed at work, she should take it to human resources, her brother Eric Trump said Tuesday — adding that*it likely wouldn’t get to that point because she’s “a strong powerful woman" who wouldn’t "allow herself to be subjected to that.”
The vice president of the Trump Organization was speaking to CBS This Morning when he was asked about a comment his father had made to USA TODAY in a*Monday column.
In an*interview with*USA TODAY*columnist Kirsten Powers, Donald Trump was defending former Fox chief Roger Ailes, who has stepped down in the wake of sexual harassment allegations. When Powers asked Trump what he would advise his daughter Ivanka to do if she were being harassed, Trump replied: “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case.”
“There is no question that that should obviously be addressed, and it should be addressed strongly*... that is an absolute no-go anywhere, and that’s very much the case,” Eric Trump said Tuesday. "I think what he’s saying is, Ivanka is a strong, powerful woman, she wouldn’t allow herself to be objected to it, and by the way, you should take it up with Human Resources.”
"She definitely would (address it with HR) as a strong person. At the same time I don’t think she would be subjected to that,” he added. "I think that's the point he was making and I think he did so well."
Former Fox News' anchor Gretchen Carlson, who sued Ailes over sexual harassment, tweeted about the comments Tuesday, saying: "Sad in 2016 we're still victim blaming women."
The comment also drew reaction*from Fox News' Megyn Kelly (who is one of the accusers of Ailes, according to New York Magazine, and has had a rocky relationship with Trump.)
Later Tuesday, Eric Trump attempted to clear up the comments by pointing to the fact that he had called sexual harassment "a no go."
The comment has drawn criticism and comes In the wake of another controversy the Republican nominee has put himself in — attacking the family of a fallen solider.
In the CBS interview, Eric Trump also attempted to back up his father for the feud that came after Khizr and*Ghazala*Khan — whose son was killed in Iraq in 2004 — spoke during the Democratic convention. Khizr accused Trump of never having read the Constitution and offered him a copy of his own.
Trump fired back, saying he, too, had made sacrifices and questioned whether*Ghazala Khan*(who had quietly stood beside her husband during the speech) was banned from speaking because of her Muslim faith. Over the weekend, she fought that notion and said she was just too upset to speak.
On Tuesday, Eric Trump tried to flip the narrative, calling Capt. Humayun Khan*“an amazing guy” but saying it wasn’t about him but instead about terrorism.
“It’s not about a soldier who is an amazing guy,” Eric Trump said, adding that his father has called the soldier a “hero.” “You know this is about a big problem we have around the world and that’s radical terror.”
He said his father was “attacked viciously” and that the fight had been blown out of proportion.
