It's one of the most notorious mysteries in the history of skyjacking. D.B. Cooper was last seen in November of 1971, wearing a business suit as he jumped out of the back of a plane carrying $200,000 in cash. He would have landed somewhere in the Northwest of the country, and the FBI has spent the past 45 years conducting one of their most thorough investigations to find out what happened to the skyjacker. This FBI handout image from 2008 shows likenesses of D.B.Cooper. In 1971, in the driving wind and rain somewhere between southern Washington state and just north of Portland, Ore., a man calling himself Dan Cooper parachuted from a commercial jet after collecting $200,000 in ransom. The FBI has said Cooper most likely did not survive the jump from 10,000 feet, but the hijacker's body has never been found.(Photo: HO AFP/Getty Images)
SEATTLE —<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The FBI says it's no longer actively investigating the unsolved mystery of 1970s plane hijacker D.B. Cooper.
The bureau announced Tuesday that it has<span style="color: Red;">*</span>"exhaustively reviewed all credible leads" during its 45-year investigation and has redirected those resources to other priorities.
The FBI has investigated since a man calling himself Dan Cooper hijacked a Boeing 727 over the Northwest on Nov. 24, 1971. He later jumped out the back of the plane wearing a business suit and a parachute after receiving $200,000 in ransom money.
No sign of Cooper has emerged, though bundles of his cash, matched by serial numbers, were found in 1980.
The FBI says it has conducted searches, collected all available evidence and interviewed all identified witnesses. It says it has<span style="color: Red;">*</span>chased an immense number of tips but none have resulted in identifying the hijacker.
