The default way to qualify a theme is very bad, this hidden.

by default:

I think it's better than the stars that has the subject at that time to see.

The text is confusing and inconspicuous, not helps users to vote.

The way to vote as many stars want to assign, must be the same.

So a topic that have not yet allocated star would.

Yeah it could use some work, and there are mods out there for ratings, but I just don't hold much stock in visual prevalence for ratings, or really even care about them.

Yeah, the ratings system is dying. Thanks/likes and such have taken over.

Interesting. I've seen that default rating system in so many forums it's so dead. Is there a way to remove it completely?

Not remove it, but disable it.

That is set for each individual forum:

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager -> Edit Forum -> Allow Thread Ratings in this Forum

Or you can disable that for all forums by running this query (backup first):

UPDATE forum
SET options = options - 2048
WHERE options & 2048

After which you will need to rebuild your forum information:

Admin CP -> Import & Maintenance -> Update Counters -> Rebuild Forum Information
