HOUSTON — The father of month-old premature triplets who were staying in a hotel with his wife and toddler daughter with no money to get home was arrested Tuesday at a Houston motel for a sex offender violation.
Derrick Session was arrested following his appearance in a KHOU-TV report about the family's financial troubles.
According to the Texas Department of Safety Records, Session was convicted in 1998 of a sex offense against an 11-year-old girl in Louisiana.
Officials said Session, 36, recently failed to maintain his offender registry status in Texas, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was taken into custody after a detective recognized him in the news report.
On Monday, Session and his wife, Vontivia Mitchell-Session, said they were discharged from The Women's Hospital of Texas following the births of their triplets — two girls and a boy — four weeks ago.The couple also has a 13-month-old daughter.

The couple, who also have older children, claimed they were out of work and used their savings to buy a van, but they still had no way to get back home to Orange, Texas. Several people initially reached out to try and help the family.
A case worker at the hospital helped get the family a room. However, after the babies were discharged, the Sessions family is not sure where to go.
"We need housing," Derrick Sessions, Vontivia's husband said.
The couple married 16 months ago. They came to Houston in November because it is the closest town with high-risk pregnancy doctors who accept Medicaid, Mitchell-Session said.
The Sessions said the SUV they used their savings to purchase to carry the family home proved too small to hold four car seats.
"We can't strap them in," Derrick Session said.
With Session on unpaid leave from his job and his wife out of work, the couple has little money. Also, two of their newborns have medical conditions that require them to see specialists in Houston in the coming months.
"My biggest fear is losing them," Derrick Session said. "We need help."
