Power outage turns off Detroit
Welcome to your Tuesday nightmare. Downtown Detroit went dark today after a cable failure triggered a massive power outage. Tons of people were trapped in elevators, and pretty much every thing you would want to have power — police departments, fire stations, schools, jails, and traffic lights — didn't. Though, it does sound like people were total rockstars with their four-way stops. The lights are gradually coming back on, and nearly everybody should have power restored by tonight. In case you were wondering, the power is back at Joe Louis Arena in time for the Red Wings-Panthers game. #Gameon.

WestJet delivering Christmas spirit to Dominican village is the best thing you'll watch all day
Ask and ye shall receive: WestJet went above and beyond with its latest, heartwarming stunt. The Calgary-based airline brought Santa Claus, lots of fake snow and — of course — gifts to the town of Nuevo Renacer in the Dominican Republic. The company and its employees made a wish come true for every person in the town. Children asked for toys, such as dolls and skateboards. Many of the adults' wished for more utilitarian items. "I'm a motorbike taxi driver, but the engine is broken," one man told Santa in WestJet's video. "And to support my children, I wish I would be granted a new engine." Cue the warm fuzzies. The wish was granted, as were ones that included a washing machine, a crib and other items. WestJet captured residents' reactions via hidden cameras. This is the third year that WestJet has rolled out a Christmas-themed video promotion. This is what they did last year. We love writing happy news.

Michael Brown's stepdad at center of today's Ferguson news
You remember the video. Michael Brown's stepdad tells the crowd to "Burn this b---- down" after a grand jury acquitted Darren Wilson last week in Brown's death. Now, police are considering charging Louis Head with inciting a riot. Some said Head's outburst was raw emotion. Others called it a direct contradiction to the PSA Brown's father released the week before calling for peaceful protests. Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson told CNN police have interviewed people who were with Head when he shouted at the crowd, but they haven't spoken with Head yet. Watch the emotional moment again in the video below.

Michael Brown's stepfather is seen in a video calling for the crowd to "burn this b**** down" after learning a grand jury didn't indicted Darren Wilson. The Brown family attorney said no one should judge Brown's parents for their emotional response. VPC

Pentagon's former No. 2 to become current No. 1?
Goodbye, Chuck Hagel. Hello, Ashton Carter? Carter, the former No. 2 official at the Pentagon, is a "leading candidate" to be President Obama's nominee to succeed Chuck Hagel as secretary of Defense and could be nominated this week, three administration officials told USA TODAY. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that he is certainly qualified to be Defense secretary, and is on the president's "short list." (See also: #theshortlist — we wonder if @jearnest44 is reading). Carter stepped down as the deputy secretary of Defense on Dec. 4, 2013. He had served as the top deputy to Hagel and his predecessor Leon Panetta. Hagel's resignation was announced last week.

Tiger Woods is revving up his golf game
He's been playing soccer with his kids, and now he's ready to dive back into competitive golf. "I feel great. I feel fantastic," Woods said Tuesday in front of a packed interview room ahead of the Hero World Challenge at Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Orlando. "The body is good. I've got my explosiveness back, my power back." Woods, who had back surgery March 31 and missed the Masters and the U.S. Open, told reporters he's back in the swing of things ahead of his second comeback of the year. Here's what his girlfriend Lindsey Vonn, who's been going through her own physical rehab, had to say earlier this week.
