RIO DE JANEIRO*—*The dynasty continues.
The U.S. women’s eight won its 11th consecutive major title Saturday, claiming its third Olympic gold medal in a row. The Americans haven’t been beaten since 2006, winning every world championships and Olympic title since then. ,
As they crossed the finish line, more than two seconds ahead of Britain, several of the women threw their hands in the air and coxswain Katelin Snyder splashed the water. Romania won the bronze.
The Americans trailed* early with Canada getting off to a fast start and leading through the first half of the 2,000-meter race. But shortly after they crossed the 1,000-meter mark, the Americans put on a surge of power and slowly pulled away.
By the time the boats came into view of the spectators at the Lagoa Stadium, the Americans were in firm control of the race.
